I went outside to look for comet 17P/Holmes. I found it hard to spot with any certainty with the naked eye, but decided to bring out the camera and the 300mm as well, and boy what a difference that made. The fuzzy comet is clearly visible against the pinpoint background stars.

Since we were out anyway, I decided to get a quick shot of the ol' moon as well.

After having it closed for repairs, management finally opened our pool again today, and of course the kids are already using the hell out of it...

Menards is opening a new store in town, and for the grand opening they had part of the Menard Racing team present to sign autographs. Robby Gordon, Matt Crafton, and Paul Menard were present, along with hundreds of local fans.

At the Mid-Michigan Motorplex for the NHRA Lucas Oil drag racing event.

Every year, there's a powerboat race on the Saginaw river in Bay City. In addition to the actual racing, various parts of the US armed forces had set up shop on the grounds, seeking the talents of our young men and women. Also, since the event was co-sponsored by St. Mary's hospital, their FlightCare helicopter paid a visit as well.
